I've been looking for a way to build a spray booth and get the appropriate kind of ventilation in it. There was a thread her a while back about how to do it. So I've been mulling it over for a while trying to decide how much plywood, what kind of fan, filtering, etc. I went to a garage sale about a mile from my house today and lo and behold, the first thing I saw was a 24" explosion proof ehaust fan with all the housing to mount it into the wall and a heavy duty explosion proof switch. I asked "how much" and the guy said 10 bucks. Must be my lucky day. Oh, and I also brought home a bunch of Baltic birch ply that the guy had. And met a fellow woodworker that I hadn't met yet. I love Fridays! |

Dave: Did you read my article on building a knock down booth? It's in the jigs and tools section. It may give you some ideas. |

That fan would be more like 12 to 15 hundred. I priced an 18 inch and it's a grand. |

They have an 18" for $575. Still not cheap but it beat paying a grand for a fan. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/searchresults.jsp This fan was recommended by a luthier a while back who said he's been using for 25 years and "it moves a LOT of air". |

Finally got some sleep last night (that felt soooo good). Had another look at the fan and I think it is 18" rather than 24". That's ok, still plenty of fan for my little shop. I'm gonna make several jigs out of that baltic birch too. |

Great find Dave. Now just be sure and get it wired up right! ![]() Bruce, try the main Grainger site. It doesn't like to work with the included search but works just fine from the main menu. Grainger Main Site |

Right you are Don! I think I'll have my electrician do the dirty work for me. Don't want to blow up all those tools I've been collecting all these years. |

Explosion Proof fan is $719 at Grainger, 18 inch Tubeaxial, 1/2 hp This is the kind it really requires, TEFC motor is good, but Explosion-proof is required. They have it listed as Hazardous location fan. Right column. Thanks. |
